Annabelle and The Bear Often Quarrel While on the Ice

Something about being out on the ice together brings out the argumentative side of both Annabelle and the bear. While engaged in other activities such as baking or bowling, they never argue. Annabelle attributes the constant bickering while on ice to the oafish nature of The Bear. While on the ice, one wants to be graceful, and The Bear can't help but to look clumsy as he totters on his skates. Annabelle believes this leads to a cranky disposition in her friend The Bear. The Bear thinks the arguments arise from Annabelle being cold. The Bear rarely has to worry about low temperatures with the thick fur covering his body. Poor Annabelle doesn't have such luck. Her jealousy of The Bears fur mingled with her discomfort due to the chilly air lead to a grumpy and argumentative attitude. Both friends keep their theories private.

The Rabbits Bring Mary Frances Floral Delights

The rabbits all adore Mary Frances. They always aim to please her, and the easiest means of pleasing Mary Frances are flowers. She is always happiest during spring when she can explore meadows and gardens for newly bloomed flowers. The rabbits know of Mary Frances' proclivity for the enjoyment of flowers. They search every day for new and beautiful flower species to bring the expectant yet appreciative Mary Frances.

Benjamin and Jasper Enjoy Creating Rainbows at the Sea Shore

I love going to the sea shore. There are so many fun things to do: collect sea shells, watch the water, swim, surf, boogie board, sand castles... the list goes on! However, one thing I have never mastered is creating my very own rainbows from scratch. Benjamin and Jasper have no problem with this. Benjamin and Jasper are brothers and they discovered as children that when they work together they have the ability to create rainbows. They go to the sea shore specifically to create rainbows. It is easier to make rainbows with salt water than it is with fresh water. The flat surface of the sand helps too, along with the reflective quality of the sea itself. Creating rainbows really is an art.

Right now I am listening to the audio book 'War and Peace' by Leo Tolstoy. I am at a part in the book where two characters are about to duel. This isn't the first time I've come across dueling in an old novel. It is handled with a nonchalance that I don't at all understand. Two people disagree, feelings are hurt, pride is bruised, and the next thing you know, they are fighting to the death! I wanted to understand the historical context of dueling a little better so I read the wikipedia article on dueling. It still is a bit of a mystery but the article mentioned that 'dueling was an alternative to a less regulated conflict.' I guess that is a plus, but avoidance of chaos does not seem like enough motivation to duel. I also learned that only gentlemen dueled and that the winner of a duel was not condemned as a murder but respected. A duel winners social standing even increases after the success. It seems like more importance was placed on pride and honor in the past than in modern times, so fighting for ones honor seemed like a worthy pursuit. My theory is that people had less opportunity to change their situation than they do now. So more emphasis was put on the importance of honor because if ones honor was blemished there would be less opportunity to regain it.
Something else interesting that I learned from the 'Dueling' article was that it is rumored that in 1808 a duel was fought in hot air balloons over Paris. Each dueler was striving to puncture the opponents hot air balloon. That's the sort of thing that would happen in a Victorian adventure novel for kids.

Treasures Found at the Marina

Birds swoop into the water to pry off sedentary sea creatures from underneath the docks. The exoskeletons are dropped onto the docks where I find them!

Autumn Baked Goods Are My Favorite

Autumn baked goods are my favorite. So delicious.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins:

I made these for a meeting of Marauders Fantasy Book Club (of Destruction). It is a SciFi/Fantasy book club I'm a part of. We had just finished reading 'Let the Right One In' and were having a meeting to watch the movie. No movie showing is complete without some sort of sweet. Now we are reading 'Little Big.'

Ginger Bread Muffins with Icing:

I made these for a meeting of Dirty Needles Craft Group. We get together and do arts and crafts together. Usually though, it's just me and my friend Ces getting together for crafts, so it isn't so much of a group as a duo.

A Visit to the Aquarium on a Blustery Autumn Day

I love trips to the aquarium. There are so many pretty things to look at. If I was granted a super power of my choice, I would definitely have to deeply consider the ability to breath under water. I would travel around the ocean and look at all the strange creatures. Although, in my underwater traveling expeditions, it would also be helpful if I had these superpowers too: 1. Super Strength so I needn't worry about shark attacks or becoming tired of all the swimming, 2. Super Speed because the ocean is a vast expanse and it would take very long to travel the whole sea at a normal swimming pace, 3. Immunity to Temperatures because the ocean can be uncomfortably cold 4. Enhanced Eyesight so I can travel to the deepest and darkest parts of the sea and 5. Some sort of resistance to the pressure associated with under water travel. Here are some more pictures from my day at the aquarium.
